    Purpose:
     
    The role of Senior R&D Engineer I in Juarez bridges the Neurovascular Manufacturing team in Juarez with the R&D team in Galway, Ireland. Responsibilities include translating product design and process requirements to manufacturing during New Product Development (NPD) and maintaining these requirements throughout the device's lifecycle. This role requires close, hands-on collaboration with NPD and manufacturing engineers, supervisors, and production operators to ensure smooth transfer of new technologies, resolve real-time manufacturing challenges, and drive continuous improvement of product and process robustness.

    The Senior R&D Engineer I is tasked with delivering technical leadership in the design and production of advanced neurovascular devices, such as catheters and coils. Responsibilities encompass project management and the effective communication of technical issues, including the proactive identification and mitigation of risks linking product design to manufacturing processes.



    You will be responsible for:

    In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

    • Provide technical leadership and take ownership of critical technical tasks in the execution of product development projects.
    • Provide design input for new products, refine designs to meet technical requirements, and balance performance with manufacturability. Engage directly with NPD, manufacturing engineers, supervisors, and operators during design refinement to ensure assembly feasibility and production readiness.
    • Implement manufacturing and quality requirements from design to manufacturing phase, to ensure product consistently meets specifications, working cross functionally with manufacturing and quality engineering. Spend routine time on the production floor to observe in-process performance and validate that transferred design intent is functioning as expected.
    • Design and/or specify fixture and equipment requirements to ensure product line is set up to make product to specification with high yields and efficiencies, in collaboration with manufacturing team. 
    • Define in-process inspection and testing requirements to monitor and ensure consistent product output from production line, working in partnership with the quality team.  Partner with NPD, production and quality teams to adjust inspection criteria based on observed process variation during early builds.
    • Assess out-of-specification results during routine production and recommend product disposition, working collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.
    • Develop and/or transfer strategically selected test capability to manufacturing location to efficiently support manufacturing.
    • Occasionally act as a core team member to contribute product design expertise in new product development. This may involve spending time in Galway, or at a supplier.
    • Identify and support new or alternate component suppliers.
    • Write and/or review procedures, protocols, specifications, and reports.
    • Leverage and liaise with external resources to support achieving project goals.
    • Manage technical project resources as required, including responsibility for goal setting, performance reviews, identify and support development needs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
    • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.
    • Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.
    • For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable.
    • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Performs other duties assigned as needed.
    Qualifications / Requirements:
    • Extensive background in medical device production, complemented by robust technical acumen, sharp analytical skills, and creative approaches to problem-solving
    • Experience with polymer and metal processing methods: extrusion, reflow, molding, coating, laser processing, braiding, and heat treatment.
    • Well-versed in designing test methods, specifying fixtures and equipment, validating methods, executing tests, writing protocols, and producing thorough reports.
    • Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
    • From 2-4 years minimum of professional experience is required
    • Shows advanced capability in developing processes through a wide range of technologies, as well as planning and implementing experimental designs
    • Proficient in statistical analysis and data interpretation.
    • Articulates ideas effectively both in speech and writing, adapting communication for various audiences
    • Focused on achieving results and meeting deadlines, with a demonstrated track record of handling multiple projects simultaneously in dynamic settings.
    • Brings strong people skills and thrives in collaborative efforts to accomplish shared goals.
    • Energetic, self-driven, and adaptable, capable of excelling independently or within team environments. Hands-on engagement with production floor teams in a regulated environment, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues in real time.
